Job Support

Job Seekers Support Group

Every Tuesday
8:00 – 9:30 AM
Church Office Conference Room

Looking for a job can be unsettling at best. At worst it can be discouraging or defeating.

Bethany UMC’s Job Seeker Support Group helps job seekers experience God’s love during this uncertain time of life. We meet every Tuesday morning to listen, encourage, and give practical connections, tips, and resources. Our group is led by church staff and members who have all been unemployed and know the struggle to find work. You’ll have a chance to share your story and tell us what kind of job you’re looking for. Then we’ll give you a few ideas and talk with you about next steps you might want to consider.

  • Meet the Job Seeker Support Team:Jim Thomas is retired from a career in technology. He has been a computer architect, an Army officer, and both an employee and manager of a number of both large and small companies and start-ups. Shortly before retiring, Jim worked as a consultant, seeking and finding contracts to use his experience as a "hired gun." He enjoys bringing a number of perspectives to those seeking a new or different job and providing examples of "been there, done that."
  • Bob Hockaday started our support group as a participant and enjoyed the community so much he decided to stick around! Now he’s busy as a consultant for Wilmington University, a national nonprofit health school, and our #1 cheerleader for job seekers. In his spare time, Bob enjoys networking with various employment agencies and connecting our job seekers with them. He wants to show job seekers they are not alone in their transition and help them achieve their truest potential.
  • Erin Williams is Bethany UMC’s Director of Care Ministries. She’s gone through long seasons of praying about her purpose and pursuing God’s call to work. She loves to listen and remind participants that God has gifted them with valuable skills and important, meaningful experiences that are related to what they do for a living.

Do you have questions or are you looking for help before the next meeting? Send Erin Williams an email to get started with support.
