Acolytes

Jesus said,

Dear Fifth Grader and Parent,

Acolytes bring the light of Christ into the worship experience and assist with baptisms and offering. Traditionally Bethany fifth graders serve as Acolytes. To serve as acolyte 5th graders and their parents are expected to attend an initial training and regular monthly training.

Initial training and practice in the Sanctuary (choose one):

  • Sunday, August 28 3:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Monday, August 29 6:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Wednesday, September 7 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Monthly:   Sunday, September–May:(Parents attend with Acolyte)

  • 11:00-12:00 noon     Room Fellowship Hall

During the monthly gatherings Acolytes and parents support one another as they learn about worship and seasons of the church year reach out in mission to help others grow in Christian community & friendship together.

Parent acolyte coordinators are needed to assist and plan for:

  • scheduling & reminders
  • missions
  • supplies (robes, candle lighter, and beads)
  • Prayer Partners

Acolytes are scheduled to serve in pairs and will be given a worship schedule listing assigned dates and times of service.  The list will include names, phone numbers and emails of all trained acolytes for the year so that a substitute may be called as needed.  A parent Acolyte Coordinator will send a post card and an email reminder each time an acolyte's name comes up on the schedule.  Scheduled acolytes who are unable to serve at a designated time are expected to arrange for a substitute. 

Acolytes will serve from October 2012 until the end of September 2013.  Our new 2012-2013 Acolytes will be commissioned and given pins during worship services on September 8 and 9, 2012.  Please be thinking about which service your family will attend for acolyte commissioning.
