About Human Sexuality for Older Girls & Boys January 22 - 24 This class is offered for 5th Graders & their Parents |
On the weekend of January 22nd– 24th, Children’s Ministries of Bethany UMC will sponsor the 20th Annual Human Sexuality Seminar for 5th grade students and their parents. This program has been accepted by the programming bodies of the church and the Administrative Board and address a vital need of our young people and their families.
Some of our children may be receiving education in this area at school or at home. But many parents have expressed concern that they need help discussing sexuality with their children and that the schools cannot present the material in the context of Christian values. We believe that the role of "primary sex education" belongs to parents, but we also believe that the church has the responsibility to assist parents with this awesome task.
The seminar will be based on the United Methodist resource: Created By God. This book will be given to each of the participants, to be kept and reread as questions arise. It covers the facts of human anatomy as well as feelings, emotions, and Christian values.
Students will work in small groups of 6-8 young people with two adult facilitators. Parents who enroll their young person will be expected to attend one session on Friday evening (for parents only) and one session Sunday afternoon (for parents and 5th graders together). 5th graders will attend sessions all day Saturday. A recreation event is available for 5th graders during the Friday night session. Drop off is at 6:45 in the Fellowship Hall. There will be childcare for siblings (infants - 4th grade) available on request, for the Friday night session and the Sunday session. Families are expected to enroll for the entire course.
A $25 registration fee covers the cost of the text and craft materials plus lunch for the Saturday session. Hostesses are needed for preparation and serving of snacks and lunch.
