The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

Baptism is an important part of our worship and community life at Bethany UMC. It is our initiation into the Body of Christ, the Church, and it joins us with Christians all around the world.  It is one of two sacraments that we celebrate in the United Methodist Church (the other being Holy Communion).  The gift of baptism is celebrated within the context of worship, with the community of faith present as witnesses of and participants in God’s grace at work in the life of the one being baptized.

Beginning in January 2008, we will be highlighting the significance of baptism by scheduling baptisms in worship services only on the 4th Sundays of the month, with the exception of March in which they will be on the 5th Sunday due to Easter.  We will also schedule baptisms on Saturdays, except for the Saturdays on which we celebrate Holy Communion (Saturdays which occur with 1st Sundays).

Also, beginning in January 2008, the baptism class will be held on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 11:00 AM in Room D-208.  You must attend one of these classes prior to the baptism. Baptism scheduling forms are available in the church office or online:
